Giveaway : Doie Designs : Mill Valley Trimmed Cardigan (ends 3/7) + Big Sur Empire Hoodie Review

Today’s Brixton Street ♥ You feature comes to you courtesy of Doie Designs!

Doie Designs is an ecologically-friendly, outrageously adorable clothing line based in Los Angeles and owned by former Parsons student, Sara Kirsner.  Having interned at Marc Jacobs and DKNY, freelanced for Anne Taylor, and launched her own line (Doie Designs) with an already impressive selection of designs under her belt, its clear that Sara has all the makings of a successful designer.  The company certainly embodies everything I love about good fashion.  From the use of organic and sustainable textiles, to the feminine cuts and the pretty prints, to the gorgeous color palettes, to being constructed in the US, and a wearability factor that makes you point and say “How pretty!  I want that!  Hmm…. and that!  Oh, and that too!“, there is certainly so much to adore about Doie.   In fact, I think you would be hard pressed not to find something you love after browsing the clothing selection on the Doie website.  Go ahead, I dare you to try it!

Sara recently sent over a beautiful women’s hoodie, the Big Sur Empire Hoodie, $120, from Doie Designs’ California Collection.  The hoodie is a beautiful kelly green (other colors also available, see photo above) with a lovely bonsai print lining the hood.   The jacket is made from 92% Viscose from Bamboo/8% Lycra and 100% Silk Charmeuse; the result is a luxuriously soft fabric that feels wonderful to the touch and also has a nice amount of stretch to it.  The materials also allow the product to maintain a fresh, crisp look which, along with the feminine cut, appears much dressier than your average hoodie.

One of the things I love most about this hoodie: the empire style waist and the length of the piece which give an almost dress-line appearance.  The hoodie is cut long with a length similar to that of a tunic or mini-dress.  Worn zipped it can be worn similar to a dress (great with leggings or skinny jeans), and worn unzipped it can be styled as a coat- super versatile.

How I wore the piece (black American Apparel ribbed tank, black jersey scarf (no brand), black BCBG Max Azria skirt, black 6126 leggings.. oh yes, I do sense a trend here):

The details on this hoodie are absolutely gorgeous, from the empire waist to the silk trimmed pockets to the lined hood, the care that went into designing this piece is very apparent from one look at the finished product.  I love that the color selection offers a pale shade (white), a dark shade (black), and a brighter shade (green) giving consumers a nice range of choices to work with.  I normally don’t do brighter colors, but this shade of green isn’t too bright and is actually very wearable.  The green looks GREAT paired with my normal neutrals and is especially nice with layers of black.

Here are just a few of the other great designs from Doie :

Pieces from the California Collection, Left to right:

La Jolla Tiered Dress ($224), Sonoma Slip Dress ($192), Hollywood Bubble Dress ($192)

Left to right: D’Orsay Top ($68 sale), Robe ($136), Venice Jumper ($48 sale)

In addition to their regular clothing line, Doie also has a “lounge” line that specializes in comfortable robes which are as gorgeous as they are eco-friendly.  Sooo adorrrrrrrable (and rumored to be the perfect bridesmade gift)!

Seriously, I love everything and everything about Doie and am looking forward to adding more pieces from their collection to mine very soon.  For now, I’m excited to be offering YOU a piece of Doie for yourself:  one Brixton Street reader will receive a gorgeous cardigan from Doie’s California Collection!  A huge thank you to Sara at Doie Designs for providing a giveaway prize for this month’s event!
